WORLDBREAKER AND KRYSTAL YHATE
WILD KISS AND AMBER BLACK
WORLD'S AND KISS'S SPRING CUP WORKOUT
Krystal ordinarily didn't ride World, but Amber had wanted to work the stallion out with her other mount Wild Kiss, and World had gotten to know Krystal for the Breeders Cup Turf. Thus, the two were happily working together again and Krystal didn't mind at all. World was peaceful and possessed amazing talent. He was the most lightly raced horse she had seen at five years old and this was his final season, most likely. He had flaunted nothing but class in limited starts last year and this year was his closing year. Thus, they were ending it with a bang. He had placed second and first so far and Krystal knew he was just starting to come into his own. The thought made her smile as she knew that the racing world wouldn't even know what had hit them. He was prepping for the Spring Cup Grade Two Turf and Krystal knew he would likely be facing the Grade Three Turf field instead due to the fact that none had dared to challenge him. She laughed at that, hoping it would one day be a true statement.
Strike A Pose and Silent Fury, his half brother, were facing them, both from Star Thoroughbreds. Krystal knew that World could take them easily. They didn't have his class, and despite the fact that Silent Fury had just beaten Sillenia in the Unicorn Horn Classic she knew that they would defeat the colt on race day. The race had played out so Silent Fury was in the front and Strike A Pose was just behind and pressuring. World would bring up the rear, and the thought made Krystal grin. She knew Amber wouldn't repeat the mistake she had made with Sillenia last time out. She would keep World in striking distance and by doing so could very well guarantee his success in the race. Krystal wanted to see more wins on World's records and was looking forward to watching him run.
Wild Kiss was the four year old mare who Amber knew lacked the talent she had thought she would have. The two year old filly had won the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf but hadn't shown the same talent since. She had started three times this season for two seconds and a third and Amber was wondering where she had gone wrong with the mare. She had worked hard with her for little results. Perhaps she just needed to work harder or try a new approach? Either way, she was aiming to win the Grade Four Turf. They were facing Georgie's Girl, who was already more consistent and had been having a fantastic season. Amber wanted to defeat the filly any way that she could. She knew Kiss was capable of it if she could just figure out how. She needed Kiss to win this or they might never be able to redeem themselves. Georgie's Girl was a preceder and Kiss was a closer. They were the only two entered. This would force their opponent to adopt a front running position, and they could keep with their closing. Amber would just have to make sure they didn't get too far back. If they played it right, they would stand an excellent chance of winning.
The two siblings met and their riders met too. They locked gazes with each other and in that moment both riders knew what the other was thinking and what they wanted for their respective horses. Understanding gleamed in their eyes and then they had turned their horses and began their workout. For better or worse, they would work hard, and hopefully by doing so, succeed.
